- Problem
- Half a key in someone’s hand, the rest in the column. Often a worn blade that finally gave up, sometimes a tight cylinder.
- Diagnosis
- Leave the stub alone. Pliers usually pack brass into the wafers. Extraction first, then decide if the cylinder is still usable or if a new key will break in the same place next month.
- Work
- Extract the broken blade without destroying the cylinder if that is still possible.
- Cut a correct replacement. Program if the head had a transponder.
- Recommend cylinder repair or replacement if wear caused the break.
- Result
- Key out. Vehicle usable. A warning if the ignition is the next failure, not a smile and a duplicate of a bad situation.
