Master-Key Systems in Taylor, Michigan

A master-key system lets one key open many doors while individual keys open only theirs. That is useful in a small building. It is also easy to ruin with random rekeys, mixed cylinders, and “just make me a copy of this one.”

We do master-key related work when the existing system can still be read, or when a small system needs to be set up on compatible hardware. We will not pretend a junk drawer of keys is a system.

Commercial lock cylinders and keys laid out for pinning

What we need to work on an existing system

The master if you have it, change keys, and a list of doors. A bitting chart if a previous locksmith left one — rare, but gold.

If nobody knows the structure, the first visit is identification: what can be saved, what is already combinatorial chaos, and whether a rebuild is cheaper than chasing ghosts.

Small buildings vs campus systems

A three-door shop with a master and two change keys is a normal job. A multi-building campus with grand masters is a specification project. We will not oversell the first as the second.

Questions people actually ask

Can you add a door to our current master?

If the cylinder is compatible and there is room in the pinning to add it without collapsing the system, yes. If the system was already pinned into a corner, adding “one more door” can break other keys. That is why we look before we pin.
