Ignition Problems in Taylor, Michigan

Not every “key will not turn” call is a locksmith job, and not every ignition problem is a stolen-car situation. Worn wafers, a collapsed steering lock, a bent key, and an actual ignition swap are different repairs.

We diagnose what is in front of us. If the cylinder is the problem, that is locksmith work. If the issue is electrical or deeper in the column, you will not get a parts-cannon ignition sold as a fix.

Common ignition calls

Key will not turn. Often a worn key, worn wafers, or the steering lock is loaded because the wheel is against the stop. Try relaxing the wheel first — that one is free.

Key will not come out. Sometimes the shifter is not fully in park. Sometimes the cylinder is failing.

Ignition turns, nothing happens. That can be the transponder, the ignition switch electrical side, or the vehicle. It is not automatically a new cylinder.

Broken keys in the ignition

If the blade snapped in the cylinder, do not keep fishing with pliers. That packs brass in the wafers and turns a 20-minute extraction into a cylinder replacement. Call and leave it alone if you can.

Questions people actually ask

Can you replace an ignition cylinder on site?

On many older domestic vehicles, yes. On many newer columns, the ignition is tied into the immobilizer and airbag clock spring in a way that is not a driveway swap. We will tell you which one you have.

Call. Have the year, make, and model if it is a car. Have the city if it is a house or shop. That is enough to start.
