Vehicle lockout after hours

Educational process note — how this type of job is typically approached. It is not a write-up of a specific completed job.

Problem
Keys on the seat, doors locked, evening or overnight, often a lot on Eureka or a driveway. No child or pet inside — if there is, that is said first on the call.
Diagnosis
Identify the vehicle before picking a tool. Tight modern weatherstrips, alarms, and fob-only systems are not a 1998 pickup. Ownership still has to be clear, even at 1 a.m.
Work
  1. Confirm the vehicle and the person.
  2. Open through the door with the least risk to glass, paint, and wiring.
  3. Hand over the keys. If this was the only copy and it is already failing, talk about a spare before the next lockout.
Result
Vehicle open without a broken window whenever that is the responsible path. Destructive entry is a last conversation, not a first move.
