Problem
A door in Wyandotte had been drilled and altered to fit a newer lock. It was left that way, and the door would not latch.
Diagnosis
The latch tongue had no finished pocket to enter. The strike side needed to be cut and plated. A new lock was not the fix.
Work
  1. Check the door edge and the strike side.
  2. Chisel the pocket so the latch tongue has a place to enter.
  3. Install a new strike plate.
  4. Test that the door latches and stays shut.
Result
The door latched again after the strike was cut and a new strike plate was installed, October 14, 2026.
