Residential Locksmith

Lock Replacement in Taylor, Michigan

Replacement is for hardware that is worn, broken, wrong for the door, or no longer the function you want. The door, the backset, the bore, and the strike all have to be considered. A lock that looks right on the shelf can sit crooked on a 1960s Downriver door and never latch well.

We replace residential knobs, levers, and deadbolts, and we will tell you when the door needs a strike adjustment more than it needs a new lock.

Fit the door, not the box

Backset (usually 2-3/8 or 2-3/4), door thickness, and whether the door is square in the frame decide the hardware. A warped slab will defeat a brand-new deadbolt.

If the strike is the problem, we fix the strike. Selling a second lock that misses the same hole is not a repair.

Knobs, levers, and broken locks

Levers are easier for a lot of households and meet a lot of practical needs that knobs do not. They also need to be handed correctly.

A lock that spins, a thumbturn that does nothing, or a latch that will not extend is broken. That is replacement, not graphite and hope.

Questions people actually ask

Can you match the finish to my existing hardware?

Often, if we are replacing one piece in a set. If the rest of the door hardware is 20 years old, a perfect match may not exist. We will say so rather than guess at a “close enough” in the wrong light.
